Day 1 of ACCA study journey
Dear diary,
Just took the first step of studying for ACCA. My head is blocked. Probably due to too much going on around me. Got a part-time bookkeeping and payroll course (which has a payroll test around end of May or beginning of June), a full time job as assistant accountant, a translation hobby, a driving test in 22 days and ACCA's first exam in 50 days.
And personal life is busy too. Mom needs me to fix a leaky bathtub (due to silicone around the edge wearing off) and paint the water-stained ceiling (which came from the combo of leaky bathtub and mishandling of the bath tap). My own place also needs the renovation loose ends finished. Ahhhhhhhhh! What am I doing to myself!?
A quick catch on my ACCA situation. To progress further in my new-ish job, it's ideal to do ACCA or something similar. As a lazy thinker, I choose ACCA since my colleagues my age is doing it. And the exams can be taken one at a time. I heard another one was four exams in one go and if fail any, have to repeat all. Nope, that's not for me. ACCA it is!
After applying to become an ACCA student, I soon hear back that I get 3 exemptions. Basically the foundation (Applied Knowledge). It has been so long since I finished college, I recall some stuff but not enough to feel like it's a stable foundation. Maybe going through the foundation again is better? Anyway, it's too late. I already booked the Law exam in June.
Yesterday, I planned to go to my old college library to study as I knew I'll get nothing done at home. However, my colleague said it's better to only study the ACCA book. Ugh, was thinking of using free resource from my old college (register alumni card to get access onto old college library again XD). So I gave up the idea of going to the library after work since I don't have the book.
On the bus ride home, I was browsing around ACCA study hub. Previously, when look through it, the courses on display were only the Applied Knowledges. No Applied Skills in sight on the dashboard. That was why I planned to go to library for resource. After reading once again that all the resources to study was available on the study hub, I gave it another go. After all, such large institute wouldn't provide false advertisement and charge so much money for nothing.
Well, what do you know? There's a 'see all' link. Once clicked open, I found the course I was looking for, Law! Law is said to be the easiest of the Applied Skills. Only two options for it English version or Global version. When booking the exam, there was more version than that. I had booked Irish version exam. Without a choice, I choose global course.
After a few slides, I was getting drowsy on the bus. Might be the usual motion sickness getting to me or my eyes tired from staring at the screen all day at work. Well, that's studying put on halt again.
After getting home at seven-ish, it was (huge amount of) procrastination, dinner, some translation done and create a quick study plan before I got back to studying. At this stage my head and eyes see the words but not registering its meaning. So I copied first few section into google translate and got it read out to me a few times. The brain finally grabbed something now and then. Not working, still. T.T
So here I am destressing my brain before bed by dumping everything here. Been reading too much, my English vocab felt like it shrank. Blogging the ACCA was out of sudden impulse, so the blog isn't fully set up atm. That's why, not much info on ACCA either. Hopefully, I have the time to expand on it later.
Night Stranger!
